HOW TO CREATE A KITCHEN ISLAND CENTERPIECE

A kitchen island can be daunting! So much space to fill…. and no clue where to start. While it can seem scary, using my tips may help you along the way!

Step 1: get a Tray, Stand, or Cutting Board

Something I’ve learned over the years is that you need something for all your items to be held on. It could be a tray, cutting board, bowl, etc. Just SOMETHING that you are obsessed about! I finally landed on this cake stand from Target. Yep. A cake stand. I absolutely loved the wood, the style, and the possibilities for what to style with it. So, I went for it!

Step 2: pick three items you want to display (small, medium, large)

Alright people. Next, you have to nail down what you actually want to display… candles? plants? pictures? what is it??? I wanted something neutral for my kitchen so I ended up going with a candle and a large artificial plant for target that I’m obsessed with! I know I said three… bear with me. For my tray, I actually went with a beaded garland from amazon, instead of a smaller third item. I wanted something to be falling from the tray to give it some more movement and interest! When the seasons begin to change I will swap out the greenery for something that fits the season better, along with adding a third smaller item (pumpkin, ornament, decoration, etc). But for right now, it’s all it needs!

Step 3: Put it all Together

Last step! All you need to do is put it all together. My biggest suggestion is making a triangle with your three items. Try to place them so the larger one is in the back, medium next to but just in front, and finally the smallest of them all front and center. When I wanted to add in the beaded garland, it took me multiple tries to land on something I personally liked and thought “flowed.” Don’t be afraid to try multiple variations!! Sometimes it will take you more time than you think…

UPDATE!

I ended up using the same materials for my kitchen island centerpiece but did one very simple change. The GREENERY and VASE! That’s it! I wanted to use the same centerpiece because honestly, I love it. It’s super simple and easy to move when we have guests over. I went with a simple white vase and found some winter greenery on Amazon. It added exactly what I wanted! Just enough to show me it was winter :) If you are wanting some color, try red berries to add the pop you may be looking for.
